Checking out the new facebook ap, and UT-Austin?!?!

Thought I would check out this new application on facebook…

Ok, tonight was the first meeting of Texas vs. UTEP. For the last twenty years or so, whenever these two meet, UTEP writes on the marquee UT-Austin, which I don’t think the flagship school of the UT system actually goes by. Back in the day Texas b-ball coach Tom Penders pointed out that the scoreboard should read TEXAS. I love my alma mater, but no one calls TEXAS-UT Austin.

If my history is correct, a few years back the universities on the border here in Texas sued for some kind of equal funding. The difference is that there are certain schools that have prestige at a certain level. The school that everyone wants to go to…and perhaps pitting a UT-El Paso versus a UT Austin may give the semblance of equality, but when it comes down to it…who has the bigger endowment, and alumnus base? Who has the Noble Prize winner on its faculty?

Well, UTEP went down…I saw a funny t-shirt on the EP TIMES website. It was a UTEP shirt, the caption”A New Brand of Texas Football”. The picture, a goofy longhorn steer, with a pick axe branded on its backside. Pretty funny stuff.
